Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

10:00am – 6:00pm
7 Days a Week
Rags & Wags Thrift Store Hours:
8:00am – 4:00pm M-F
10:00 – 2:00pm on Saturday
Our newest Bachlorette Fluffy wants to remind everyone that TOMORROW is the start of the Bissell EMPTY THE SHELTERS event! Our cat adoption fee will only be $20, and our dog adoption fee will be $40! There was some confusion about previously posted amounts, but these are the prices of the adoption fees! Cathy Bissell and BISSELL Pet Foundation are why we can have this event and hopefully more in the future!
Back to our Bachelorette, she has spent the last year living outside after her owner passed away, and the neighbors brought her to us because they knew she was too precious to keep living in the streets! She has really warmed up to us and has been a rockstar patient during her ear treatment. Our adoptable cat, Cecil, needed to pop in to give some updates! Due to increased animal numbers, special adoption events, and staff training, we will have new hours starting 4/30/24 and will be in effect until further notice! We will be open daily to the public from 11 am to 5 pm. These hours will not interfere with animal care as staff will still be here for their regular shifts, but this will allow us to guarantee every animal gets the care they deserve and allow us to better match you with your new best friend. We appreciate the community's understanding at this time.

We are thrilled to announce that we will participate in the Bissell Pet Foundations Empty the Shelters National Adoption Event! We will hold the event from May 1st through May 10th at the Lemhi County Humane Society! Our fees will be reduced to $20 for a feline and $40 for a canine! Thank you to the Bissellpet-foundation and Cathy Bissell for helping over 410 shelters find loving homes for their furry friends!
