Since 1977
Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

Monday – Saturday: 9 am – 6 pm

Barn Cat Boogie is next week! 🤠
Dust off your boots and join us Thursday, September 10 from 5:30–9 p.m. at Sweetwater Hollow for an evening of music, dancing, animals, food, drinks, games, and family fun — all benefiting homeless animals right here in Lemhi County.

Today we’re extending a huge THANK YOU to Salmon River Propane and a very generous anonymous donor who helped us get a brand-new commercial washer and dryer set! 🎉
For a long time, we’ve made do with donated and lower-capacity washers and dryers, and we’ve always been grateful for what we had. But when our washing machine finally kicked the bucket last week, we decided it was time to invest in the right tools for the job.
Thanks to a generous discount from Salmon River Propane, an anonymous donor who covered the remaining cost, and our volunteer installation tech (thank you, Derek!), we now have exactly what we need to keep up with the high-capacity—and, frankly, REALLY dirty—laundry we tackle every single day.
As you can see, Shelter Manager Paige and our senior cat Moo Moo are pretty excited about the new additions. 😻
We are so grateful to have a community that steps up when we need it. Thank you for helping us keep the shelter clean, comfortable, and running smoothly for the animals in our care! ...
