Lemhi County Humane Society owns & operates the Salmon Animal Shelter and Rags & Wags Thrift Store.
SAS provides high-quality sheltering services for the homeless pets of Lemhi County.
We also provide funds for public spay and neuter programs in an attempt to decrease the number of dogs and cats entering our shelter. We serve as a line of defense against animal abuse & neglect, working closely with law enforcement officials, to ensure that all animals in Lemhi County are treated in a kind and humane manner.

Wednesday – Monday 11 am – 6 pm

Monday – Saturday: 9 am – 6 pm

Our FEE-WAIVED ADOPTION EVENT is THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 22ND! We’ve had lots of questions, so here are a few important things to know:
🐾 You STILL need to fill out an adoption application, even if you have adopted from us before. We recommend filling it out before you arrive!
🐾 Adoptions will be first come, first served.
🐾 Please be patient and kind to our amazing staff! ❤️ We expect it may be a busy day, and our team will be working hard to help everyone.
🐾 Check our website before you come! It is always being updated with which pets are currently available, and checking ahead can help make your visit go much more smoothly.
We are SO grateful to have received this grant through the 🐾 The Rescue Effect: Fee-Waived Adoption Day! 🐾 ! 🙌 This opportunity gives us a chance to help some of our wonderful pets find their forever homes, free up much-needed kennel space, and ultimately help even more animals in need. 🐶🐱❤️
We also have lots of pets getting spayed and neutered over the next few days, so our available animals may change quickly!

Our first fee-waived adoption day of the year is this Saturday!! 🎉 🐾 The Rescue Effect: Fee-Waived Adoption Day! 🐾
We’re teaming up with the ASPCA and joining shelters and rescues across the country for #TheRescueEffect.
This Saturday, August 22, adoption fees are WAIVED for all adoptable animals at Lemhi County Humane Society! 🐾
Why? Because when one animal goes home, the impact doesn’t stop there.
That adoption opens up space. It frees resources. And it gives us the ability to say yes to the next animal who needs somewhere safe to land.
It’s a ripple: When we help one, we help many. That’s The Rescue Effect. ❤️
Our regular adoption process still applies, the only thing missing Saturday is the fee. Come meet your new best friend. You might just change a whole lot more than one life.
We are so excited to be partnering with the ASPCA on this nationwide campaign and even more excited to see what our community can do with it.

Sir Charles has been with us since February, and we think it’s about time this handsome gentleman traded shelter life for a home of his very own! ❤️
Sir Charles is a 3-year-old Collie mix with plenty of love to give. After spending months waiting for his person to come along, he’s more than ready to start his next chapter with a family who will love him just as much as we do.
