Services

The Lemhi County Humane Society offers numerous services to the community in addition to adoption.

Shelter & Care

The Lemhi County Humane Society provides shelter for stray, abandoned, and owner-surrendered animals. Each animal is given vaccinations and a health assessment when they enter the shelter. They are then housed and cared for while they await their forever home.

If surrendering a dog, you will be asked to complete a Dog Personality Profile.

Animal Protection

Citizens who may be concerned about an animal’s welfare can call the Lemhi County Humane Society and request an animal welfare check. Occasionally, we are called upon by the Sheriff’s Office to assist in the removal and housing of animals in crisis. LCHS will maintain the animals at the shelter while legal proceedings are underway and may be responsible for the placement of the animals at the conclusion of the court case.

Pet Adoptions

LCHS has many adoptable animals awaiting their forever home. Each potential adopter is asked to complete an application to begin the adoption process. Please see the Adoptable Pet page for more information about our adoptable animals.

Population Control

LCHS ensures all animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. LCHS also sponsors numerous spay/neuter events throughout the year to help control the pet population and help prevent overpopulation.

Volunteers

LCHS provides the opportunity for people to volunteer at the shelter. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities including dog walking, cat companion and socializing, fundraising/special events, and fostering. Volunteers are critical to helping socialize and assist in training the many animals in the shelter to ensure that they are adoptable. Please see the How You Can Help page for more details.

Animal Transport

Occasionally volunteers help transport animals from the Salmon Animal Shelter to their new homes and breed-specific rescues, as well as to another partner shelter.
