Ken Hill Kitten Cabin

Construction has commenced on the Kitten Cabin!

Frame is up! This image above is Day 38 of construction.

Breaking ground on August 1, we expect this project to be complete by the end of September. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary – 45 years of saving lives – than by building the Ken Hill Kitten Cabin to save the lives of the most vulnerable animals needing care in our shelter: kittens.

We still need your help to furnish this kitten cabin with life-saving critical care equipment for the kittens, and funds to finish the interior construction. Please consider making a donation for the equipment necessary to care for the kittens of our community.

In 2021, over half of the cats sheltered by LCHS arrived as kittens; 145 out of 270 total felines sheltered. Motherless kittens are the most vulnerable to disease, cold, and difficulties weaning. Currently, we do not have the facility to shelter these babies in an isolated space, which these kittens need to thrive and grow. We are raising funds to build and furnish an additional building on-site, solely for kitten care and sheltering – the Ken Hill Kitten Cabin!

It will include:

  • A kitten nursery with critical care equipment, including at least one kitten incubator, and individual kennels large enough to accommodate nursing mother cats with litters.
  • Upgraded “compartment-style” kennels with adjustable partitions. Research has shown compartmentalized kennels reduce feline stress in the shelter, as well as reduce the chances of disease outbreaks such as upper respiratory diseases among the population.
  • Communal exercise and socialization spaces for weaned kittens.
